How to change the card network on your Vibrant terminal
Last updated on April 10, 2025
When accepting payments with co-badged cards (e.g., Visa/Dankort or Mastercard/Dankort), your Vibrant terminal automatically selects the Dankort scheme if you have a Dankort agreement in place. However, if you don’t have a Dankort agreement, the terminal will default to the international card scheme.
Customers also have the option to manually select their preferred card network during the transaction. In this article, we’ll explain how this works and guide you through the process of manually changing the card network.
How your terminal selects the card network
With a Dankort Agreement: If your terminal has a Dankort agreement enabled, it will automatically choose the Dankort part of a co-badged card (e.g., Visa/Dankort or Mastercard/Dankort) when presented.
Without a Dankort Agreement: If you do not have a Dankort agreement, the terminal will default to an international card scheme, such as Visa or Mastercard.
How customers can manually choose the card network
Even if Dankort is automatically selected, customers have the option to change the card scheme during the transaction. Here’s how they can do it:
Initiate the payment – Begin the payment as usual by following the standard procedure.
Access the card scheme selection – Before the customer taps their card, they (or the merchant) need to click the button with the card icon in the top right corner of the terminal screen. This action enables the card network selection.
Choose the preferred sard scheme – After tapping the card, the terminal will read the available card options. The available schemes will appear on the terminal screen, and the customer can choose which one they’d like to use (e.g., Dankort, Visa, Mastercard).
Confirm the selection – After selecting the desired card scheme, the customer must click Confirm on the terminal.
Complete the payment – The customer will then need to tap the same card again to confirm and finish the payment process.
Payment success – Once the payment is confirmed, a green success message will appear on the terminal screen, indicating the transaction is complete using the selected card scheme.
Why this flexibility matters
Providing the option to manually select the card network allows customers to choose the payment method they prefer, whether that’s Dankort or an international card network. This flexibility is particularly useful in scenarios where customers want to use rewards or other features associated with international cards.
The Vibrant terminal offers you and your customers full flexibility when choosing the payment network, whether Dankort or an international card scheme. By understanding how the system works and how to change the network during the transaction, you can offer a better experience for your customers and ensure your payment process is always tailored to their needs.

In rare cases, if Nets processing is unavailable, using the card scheme selection feature to switch to an international card network can ensure a smoother transaction for your customers and prevent payment delays.
